ONE WAY GLASS is a very different kind of RPM compilation. Instead of the usual cross-section of Sixties collectables, this unique 3-CD set takes a fresh look at British music from the late 60s through to the mid-70s, with an eye on overlooked dancefloor-friendly finds. The rhythmic backbone of One Way Glass lies in Progressive Rock outfits who - every so often - would emulate their jazz heroes and record funky sides tucked away on albums or B-sides. Many of these tracks (Jonesy, Hardin & York) have been known to collectors of Funky Breaks for years.
Welcome to another selection of modern progressive music for you to enjoy, with the latest Prog cover CD. As usual, there is a mix of bands, some of whom we all know, some of whom we are acquainting ourselves with for the very first time. The Von Hertzen Brothers' ebullient "Long Lost Sailor" is from an album which sees them strongly reconnect with their prog base, Norwegians When Mary take us into a dark electronic universe and the UK's own I Am The Manic Whale feature in this issue's Limelight section. While the taster for Gleb Kolyadin's forthcoming solo album, featuring Marillion's Steve Hogarth on vocals, has us eagerly anticipating the full album. The remainder of tracks offer an enjoyable take of instrumental prog (Anders Buaas, Corciolli, Orpheus Nine) and with vocals (Machines Dream, The Mighty Handful, Lunar). Thoroughly enjoyable fare.

Welcome to Wish You Were Here, the latest mix of new progressive sounds that accompanies issue 80 of Prog. It's a delightfully mixed bag this month. Brit proggers IT and Jouis weigh in with lengthy and wonderfully structured epics, while Galahad, Koyo, Circus and Aisles lessen the bombast for something more gentle and distinctly melodic. It's always good to hear music from Mariusz Duda, and here he offers something from his forthcoming fifth Lunatic Soul album Fractured. The Longing and Serpentyne mix muscular rock with a folky edge.
COUPLA PROG had no album release during their existence from 1969 to 1975 which is a great surprise. The members decided to work without any commercial approach. The band's complete material was recorded at four sessions between 1970 and 1972 and buried in the archives until the beginning of this century…
